Welcome.

Welcome to the page of Company A,  Battalion of Sharpshooters of General William Mahone’s Brigade of Virginians.  We are an independently affiliated Civil War reenactment organization portraying this often forgotten branch of Confederate infantry.  This unit was formed in December 2007.  All of the original members are veterans of another reenacting unit, many of whom had reenacted together for over 5 years.  The unit is a young one, its average age some 25 years, yet what it lacks in years on the field, it makes up for in sheer enthusiasm and tenacity, much like the volunteers of the Virginia Brigade 140 years prior.

Please explore our pages, we hope you find them informative.  Feedback is always welcome and we are also always looking for new recruits and new comrades.

“Their record proved that they were absolutely invincible in every engagement in their history, never having been driven from their lines in any single engagement.”
- John E. Laughton, Adjutant

 About.

Picture
Being a more late-war unit that found itself on campaign for much of the rest of the war, we show this in our uniforms, equipment, and style of encampment.  We portray campaigners much of the time while attending a mixture of events; small to large; mainstream to hardcore.  We feel that doing so provides not only something which is appealing to our rank and file, but also offers something valuable and different for the public within the vast seas of canvas.

Our main goal above all is the enjoyment of the hobby of reenacting, for without that, we wouldn’t be here.  In that, we believe there is little room for politics and thus try to avoid it as much as possible. Membership spans the states of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia -  encompassing both born-and-raised southerners and bona-fide Yankees.  We require only one winter meeting each year, for drill and deciding the next year’s event schedule, therefore we don’t require a centralized local membership.  We essentially travel as far as our members are willing to in a variety of locales, typically the upper Mid-Atlantic region from lower New York to southern Virginia, and west to West Virginia; individual events may vary from time to time though.

We are all-accepting and ask only for the right effort and attitude.  Our unit is founded around the principles of democratic decision making, progress towards authenticity, friendship and camaraderie, and unit cohesiveness.
